Charlemagne
A four-handed game of Charlemagne with people wherever they are.
How to play
This table needs all four seats before the first card is dealt, so the host has three links to send, one each. Partners sit opposite: the host and guest 2 are one side, guests 1 and 3 the other.
You sit at the bottom of the table and your partner sits across from you. The other three hands show as one face-down card and a number, because you can see how many cards they hold but not which ones. The kitty, the cards put back and a partner's thrown-away hand are never shown to anyone.
Bidding runs once round from the seat after the dealer. A bid button that is not higher than the bid on the table is greyed out, and a dealer who finds three passes in front of them cannot pass, and has to bid. After a Charlemagne the bidder's partner passes one card, face down, before trump is named. After a solo bid the partner sits out and tricks have three cards.
A card the rules will not take is dimmed and says why when you press it. A Gros Mulot bidder's hand goes face up for everyone once the first trick is over. The trick just taken stays on the table until the next lead.
After the eighth trick the table says what was bid, whether it was made and who scored. Everybody presses Next hand and the next hand is dealt one seat further round. Chat is always on at the table, and voice only if the host switched it on when they made it. The blind pass is meant to be made without discussion, and nothing here stops anyone talking, so that one is on your honour.
