How to play

Take the pyramid apart from the bottom up. Two cards leave the table together when their values add up to thirteen: an ace counts one, a jack eleven, a queen twelve. A king is worth thirteen on its own, so it goes as soon as you tap it. Only a card with nothing resting on it can be played.

Tap one card and then its partner. The card on top of the waste pile counts as a partner too, and so do the top two waste cards together. Tap the deck for a new card, and tap it again when it runs out to turn the waste back over. Undo takes back a move, and New deals a fresh pyramid.

Play Pyramid Solitaire online, free, in pairs that make thirteen

Pyramid Solitaire deals twenty eight cards in a pyramid, and you remove them in pairs that add up to thirteen. An ace is one, a jack eleven, a queen twelve, and a king is thirteen on its own. Clear the pyramid and you win the game. It is free and runs in a browser tab.

Match two cards to thirteen and they go

Every card is worth its number, the jack eleven, the queen twelve and the king thirteen. Match two that add up to thirteen and you remove both: a queen with an ace, a nine with a four, a seven with a six. A king needs no partner and goes the moment you tap it.

A card must be uncovered before you can play it. All twenty eight are face up from the start, so you can see the queen you want and the two cards sitting on top of her, which is most of the fun and all of the frustration.

The stock holds the other twenty four cards. Tap it for a new one. The card on top of the waste pile is a legal partner, and so are the top two waste cards together, and when the stock runs out you tap it again to turn the waste back over, as many times as you like.

What we do not have

Most of what a search for Pyramid Solitaire turns up is a saga: levels, lives that refill while you wait, coins, boosters and a download to get through first. This is the classic Pyramid Solitaire underneath all that, free, with no download and nothing to join.

No level to be stuck on, nothing locked, no daily reward, no profile. Nothing to download and no account either. New deals a fresh pyramid whenever a hand stops going anywhere, which costs you nothing but the four seconds it takes to look at the new one.

Undo steps back through the last thirty moves, and the moves, score and clock sit along the top. Click a card and then its partner, or tap them on a phone, where it plays the way it does on a laptop.

Why the hand usually ends

Pyramid is the least forgiving of the six solitaire games here. The card you need is often sitting directly under the card it pairs with, and no amount of good play gets them apart. That is the shape of the deal rather than a mistake you made.

We do not filter the deals for winnable ones, so plenty of hands here cannot be cleared however well you try, and a hand may close up with the two cards you need facing each other. Play the pyramid rather than the waste pile, take a king the moment it is free, and press New when the board closes up.

Which is the fun of it, if you let it be. A hand takes a couple of minutes of playing, losing costs you nothing, and the next pyramid is one button away. Nobody is counting, because there is nothing here to count it on.

Questions people ask

How do you play Pyramid Solitaire?

Remove the pyramid in pairs that match to thirteen, counting an ace as one, a jack eleven and a queen twelve. A king is thirteen by itself. A card must be uncovered to be played, the waste pile counts as a partner, and you win when the pyramid is gone.

Is there a free Pyramid Solitaire game online?

This one, free in a browser tab. Twenty eight cards in the pyramid, twenty four in the stock, undo when you need it and a New button when the hand closes up. No app to fetch first, and no account standing between you and the deal.

What is the difference between Pyramid Solitaire and Pyramid Solitaire Saga?

A saga wraps the game in levels, lives, coins and boosters, and usually an app. This is the plain card game underneath: one pyramid, one deck, one rule about thirteen. Nothing is locked, nothing refills on a timer, and a fresh deal is one button away.

Is every Pyramid Solitaire game winnable?

No, and we will not pretend otherwise. We deal a straight shuffle rather than filtering for hands that can be cleared, and Pyramid buries the card you need under its partner more often than any other game here. Take the kings early, and press New without guilt.
